Masdar of the UAE will increase cooperation with Indonesia in renewable energy, says Minister

Masdar, the state-owned energy corporation of the United Arab Emirates, has agreed to increase investment collaboration in renewable energy with the Indonesian government, according to Airlangga Hartarto, the Coordinating Minister of Economic Affairs.

Minister Airlangga and Masdar's CEO, Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, discussed the deal in Dubai, UAE, on February 11, 2025.

According to reports, Airlangga and the Emirati CEO talked about the Cirata floating solar facility and other previously established UAE-Indonesian collaboration in the renewable energy industry during their discussion.

Claiming to be the biggest in Southeast Asia, the Cirata floating PV power station is situated in Purwakarta, West Java.

Indonesia now has fresh hope for achieving sustainable energy thanks to the Cirata floating solar power plant. "This collaboration demonstrates Masdar's dedication to fostering Indonesia's renewable energy growth," Airlangga stated in a statement released on February 12, 2025.

Airlangga stated that, Masdar is working with the state-owned electrical firm PT PLN to complete the project. It is estimated that the Cirata solar power plant, which has a 192 Megawatt Peak (MWp) capacity, can provide electricity to 50,000 people.

According to Airlangga, the purpose of this meeting was to examine ways to improve collaboration between Masdar and PLN in order to increase the capacity of the Cirata solar power plant in the upcoming phase. He said that, the Cirata plant's potential expansion might reach over 1,000 MWp, with a reservoir area of over 6,200 hectares.

The Cirata Phase II Joint Development Study Agreement was signed last year, marking the start of the strengthened collaboration.

Additionally, Masdar has worked with Pertamina and PLN on a number of renewable energy projects that use geothermal, wind, solar, and green hydrogen.

Mohamed Jameel, CEO of Masdar said, the company is now investigating cooperative projects with PLN and Pertamina to assist the growth of the Nusantara Capital City (IKN). "We hope to complete the development of clean energy in IKN with a capacity of 200 MW soon," Mohamed Jameel stated.
