With the Addition of New Substations in Dubai, DEWA Expands its Energy Network

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) MD & CEO, HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, had announced that 1,530 11 kV distribution substations would be put into service throughout Dubai in 2024, an 8.2% increase from the year before.

1,070,670 man-hours were required for this expansion, all while following the strictest safety and health regulations. DEWA reported 45,317 medium voltage substations (6.6 kV and 11 kV) by the end of 2024, highlighting the expansion of Dubai's energy infrastructure in response to the city-state's and economic growing need for power.

Al Tayer emphasized DEWA's dedication to establishing Dubai as a leader in cutting-edge infrastructure, in line with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan and the Dubai Economic Agenda D33. In light of the Emirate's economic and demographic expansion, the authority keeps improving its transmission and distribution networks based on projections of power consumption through 2030.

Global recognition and leadership in more than ten key performance metrics have been attained by DEWA through the adoption of advanced technology in energy production, transmission, and distribution. In addition, DEWA established a global standard for energy efficiency and dependability by lowering line losses from electrical networks to 2.2%, as opposed to roughly 6% to 7% in Europe and the US.

DEWA's Executive Vice President of Distribution Power, Rashid Bin Humaidan, stated that the authority uses the newest technologies and works with global businesses to guarantee that the energy supply satisfies the highest requirements for sustainability, availability, and dependability. To handle the growing demand for energy and provide a steady, uninterrupted supply for all consumers, DEWA is automating its distribution network and putting best maintenance practices into place. Another goal of this effort is to increase stakeholder satisfaction.
